Brain Fitness Exercises To Improve Memory

You will be doing exercises that will enhance your focus, concentration, powers of observation, memory and visualization, as well as cognitive thinking and basic problem solving skills. Keep a sheet of paper and a pen or pencil handy as they may be required for some of these exercises.

Color Recall and picture visualization
1. Look at the picture on the right for 5 seconds, then close your eyes and recall as many colors as possible. Also try to recall as many fruits as you can recognize in this picture.

2. Look at the picture on the right for five seconds and then look away, take a sheet of paper and write down as many fruits and vegetables as you can remember seeing in this picture

Cognitive brain training
Look at the three shapes below, which one does not belong in this group.
Shape and Pattern Recognition

Memory Skills Training
Look at the picture below, then close your eyes and visualize its shape as closely as you can… follow the curves and strokes in your minds eye. Repeat the same for the other picture.

Look at this picture for 5 seconds, then close your eyes and try to visualize the shape. How many circles, triangles or points did you see?

Inflammation of the Eyelids

Inflammation of the eyelids’ edges, blepharitis, is a common condition related to bacterial infection of the eyelash hair follicles and associated glands in the eyelid.

The white of the eye, conjunctiva, can also be involved with resultant conjunctivitis.

Occasionally, the underlying cause can be allergy rather than infection, but this is only usually true for the less severe clinical presentations seen in practice.

The risk increases if you are run down and not eating properly, if you suffer from eczema, acneor have diabetes.

Good hygiene practice can help to prevent recurrent infection, as can avoiding dust or irritating substances that are associated with your working environment.

Avoiding eye make-up when the condition flares up, and switching to the use of hypoallergenic eye make-up after an episode has been treated can also be beneficial.

It's important that the problem is properly addressed becuase over time it can be associated with the loss of eyelashes, styes, scarring of the eyelids, ulceration of the eye and eyelashes with a tendency to grow inwards.

Blepharitis can take a year or more to conquer so don't despair.

Treatment includes the use of warm water and cotton wool to soak the lids for 10 to 20 minutes, several times daily, at least an hour apart to gently remove any crusting.

Antibiotic drops or ointment can be obtained from your doctor who could want to take a swab of the discharge you describe.

Should your eye become painful or your vision be adversely affected, do not hesitate to call for medical advice immediately.

Eye Care

There are several essential nutrients that help in the preservation of normal eye sight.

Herbal Juices Juices of several herbs can heal numerous eye deficiencies. Carrot juice is composed of vitamin A, which is excellent for healthy eyes. Taking carrot juice every morning for one month greatly benefits our eyes.
Parsley juice helps to keep our eyes away from several harmful diseases. Drinking 30-40 ml of parsley juice everyday can keep cataract and conjunctivitis away from us.

Crushed Herbs Crushing several herbs and consuming them is quite beneficial for our eyes. Crush 40 grams of calamus roots or sweet flag and mix it with 40% vodka. Cover-up the bottle and keep it in dark place for about a week. Filter out the solution and take twenty drops before lunch and dinner.
Take a cup of water and mix 10 grams of dried schizandra berries after crushing. Boil the solution for some fifteen minutes. Strain the solution into a cup and add boiled water again until it is full. Take 1 tablespoon everyday for two times before your meals.
Eating raw vegetables like carrots and cabbages is good for eyes. Putting a drop of honey once in seven days is also effective.

Eye Care

This information is sure to help PC users very much. During a recent visit to an optician, one of my mail friends was told of an exercise for the eyes by a specialist doctor in the US that he termed as "20-20-20". It is a must do for all of us, who spend long hours at our desks, looking at the computer screen. It will help you avoid having to buy contact lenses or glasses. I thought I would share it with you.

Step I
After every 20 minutes of looking into the computer screen, turn your head and try to look at any object placed at least 20 feet away. This changes the focal length of your eyes, a must-do for the tired eyes.

Step II
Try and blink your eyes for 20 times in succession, to moisten them.

Step III
Time permitting of course, one should walk 20 paces after every 20 minutes of sitting in one particular posture. Helps blood circulation for the entire body.

Exercises for Eye

Eye exercises are used to treat patients who have trouble using their eyes to see correctly. A doctor may prescribe eye exercises to help patients who:
  • Can't focus their eyes in order to read.
  • Have one eye that drifts outward or inward.
  • Have undergone surgery and need to strengthen muscle control.
  • Have strabismus or crossed eyes.
  • Have amblyopia.
  • Have double vision.

When Should I Consider Eye Exercises?

If you regularly experience symptoms such as eyestrain, blurred vision, headaches, increased sensitivity to bright light, tired eyes, or heavy eyelids, you may be a candidate for eye exercises. Eye exercises will not help patients who havenearsightedness, dyslexia, or excessive blinking or squinting of the eyes. Also, these exercises are usually not effective for paralysis of an eye muscle, eye muscle spasms, or eyesight problems that do not cause the symptoms mentioned above.
With conditions such as amblyopia, eye exercises are usually most helpful when prescribed in early childhood. Providing proper eyeglasses, if needed, is the first step. Amblyopia is then treated by patching or using eyedrops to block or blur the good eye. Vision therapy exercises can also force the brain to see through the amblyopic eye, which helps to restore vision.

What Do the Eye Exercises Involve?

Eye exercises strengthen the eye muscles and stimulate the vision center of the brain. Through a series of progressive therapeutic exercises, patients can be instructed on how to control their eye muscles and to see properly.
The eye exercises prescribed are usually unique to the patient and vary depending on the patient's age and other existing eye problems. Examples of different types of eye exercises include covering one eye with one hand and looking at different objects continuously instead of staring at just one object; concentrating the eye on a solitary object; or having the eye follow a pattern in order to build vision muscles.

Eyes

  • Are the most complex organs you possess except for your brain.
  • Are composed of more than two million working parts.
  • Can process 36,000 bits of information every hour.
  • Under the right conditions, can discern the light of a candle at a distance of 14 miles.
  • Contribute towards 85% of your total knowledge.
  • Utilize 65% of all the pathways to the brain.
  • Can instantaneously set in motion hundreds of muscles and organs in your body.
  • In a normal life-span, will bring you almost 24 million images of the world around you.
  • The external muscles that move the eyes are the strongest muscles in the human body for the job that they have to do. They are 100 times more powerful than they need to be.
  • The adult eyeball measures about 1 inch (2.5 cm) in diameter. Of its total surface area only one-sixth is exposed -- the front portion.
  • The eye is the only part of the human body that can function at 100% ability at any moment, day or night, without rest. Your eyelids need rest, the external muscles of your eyes need rest, the lubrication of your eyes requires replenishment, but your eyes themselves "never" need rest. But please rest them!
Eyes are your most precious sense... care for them properly!
